This is more a resource post rather than “how to”
Two techniques that can be used for blog traffic are:
1) Become an expert
On sites such as:
- About.com
- Ask.com
- Answers.com
- eHow.com
- HowStuffWorks.com
- Infoplease.com
Each site has its own requirements and set of rules. Some of them even pay you, so you could supplement your income while your long term business takes off.
Example: http://experts.about.com/
2) Become a Paid Guest Blogger at:
- http://readlearnwrite.submittable.com/submit
- http://www.rocksolidfinance.com/contact_rock_solid/guest_bloggers/
- http://strongwhispers.com/get-paid-to-write-articles/
There are 45 more blogs/sites in this resource: http://www.writersincharge.com/more-websites-that-pay/
I think you are bound to find some on your niche. Good luck with your paid guest blogging.
The benefits of becoming an expert or writing blog posts for money are:
1. Traffic- due to your byline you will gain a following and people will click to read your blog. People are naturally curious and if you write an interesting post that helped them, it follows that they will want to read your blog as it may contain more help.
2. You are receiving some revenue while your business is growing. Most people are trying to build a long term online business, if you weren’t you won’t be reading this post and will be spamming instead ;).
3. Reputation /Brand building. You will start to gain a reputation in your field. You don’t need to be a total expert in your subject. In most of the expert sites you chose which questions to answer. For example if I was writing on UK taxes, I would not answer a question relating to inheritance tax because I am not up to date with that type of tax. On the other hand, I could answer most of the questions on Income and Corporation Taxes.
4. These sites are high Page rank or /and high traffic areas so you obtain incredible exposure. There is a debate if Page Rank is important or not but my personal view is that every little helps to have your blog noticed.
5. Most of them support Google Authorship. If you have not heard about Google Authorship it is about time you did.
6. In many of them you can even add your social network contact on your profile. If the about me page is one of the most read, it follows that people want to know who wrote the article.
7. Many sites are listed in Google and Bing news, more recognition. The more ways that people can find you, can only be to your benefit.
If this post helped you to become an expert or to be a paid guest blogger please come back and share your success with me.
